Trouble abroad? Let us manage your crisis
Case Study 1:

A group of students and teachers travelling through France by bus. During the journey, one of the children develops abdominal problems with symptoms of vomiting, high temperature and acute continuous abdominal pain on the right hand side. The Bus driver makes his way to the nearest town where the youngster is admitted to the hospital’s emergency room. A diagnosis of acute appendicitis is made and the young man is rushed in for surgery. The senior Teacher contacts the parents at home. The parents want to fly out.

The group face another dilemma, The trip is on a tight schedule, they are pressed to continue with their trip, the only solution is for one of the teachers to remain behind, although this could affect the overall supervision of the group.

The senior teacher remembers that the group has a travel insurance policy, which offers a 24 hours emergency helpline service. How would they be able to help?

A call is made to the ACE RESCUE. The call is handled by a multilingual co-ordinator, who through precise and careful questioning, is able to form a picture of the situation.

The senior teacher and the co-ordinator agree a plan of action. A clear objective is identified, the group should continue with the trip with the reassurance that the welfare of the young man has now become the responsibility of the medical department of ACE Assistance. It is also agreed that one of the parents will be covered to fly out to take over

From now on the emergency services would do the following:

  • Contact the hospital to get an initial medical report
(to obtain confirmation of diagnosis and proposed treatment), and regular updates, thereafter, until such a time that the doctors are in agreement that the patient is ready for discharge

  • Arrange accommodation for one of the teachers, in a hotel near the hospital, until the arrival of one of the parents.

  • Arrange transport for the teacher to rejoin the group, upon arrival of one of the parents

  • Arrange accommodation for the parent and keep in regular contact, offering support and advising on progress made.

  • Once the child is fit for discharge, ACE Rescue’s medical department will make all necessary arrangements to repatriate the patient and parent home., i.e.:

  • Organize transport overseas.

  • Organize flights or travel by any other mean of transport medically acceptable, using the services of a medical escort if medically recommended.

  • Organize transport in the UK

In addition, ACE Rescue will handle all financial aspects involved, including payment of medical expenses, costs of flying a parent or relative on medical recommendation, accommodation costs for someone to remain with the injured or ill party and repatriation costs.

“Whatever the problem, the solution is only one call away”
